On The Road, Touching the Power of Now

June 23rd 2016, toward Black Canyon of the Gunnison through Silverton Town.

We all know this famous saying by investigator Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Life is a journey, not a destination”.

It’s what we came to feel and integrate on this trip. Being on the road was as exciting as the destination itself, if not more.

The next step was the Black Canyon of the Gunnison — Colorado — a seven-hour drive from Santa Fe.

We wanted to enjoy the journey rather than rush it, so we decided to stop halfway at San Juan National Forest, CO.

The contrast between Santa Fe and Colorado is remarkable. Suddenly, the scenery changes. The heat of New Mexico, with its striking colours, its desert and endless straight roads, gave way to the freshness, to the winding roads in the pine trees and coniferous forests.

We were for sure in Colorado.

On our way, we didn’t expect to find a historic silver mining town from 1874. I mean, come on, we had to stop and explore!

In the heart of the San Juan Mountains, Silverton Town felt surreal. Many buildings on its main street date back when silver was dominant. You can also find shops selling all sorts of things with Marijuana — cookies, chocolate, joints… We went for the chocolate.

The vistas from Silverton Town to the Gunnison are one of its kinds. That evening especially, with a threatening sky, sun breakthroughs, and the mountains around, we felt a deep sense of peace and silence that I can still reach for today.

I guess we just had touched the power of Now, wandering and aiming for nothing.
